Racing Results 31-Dec'25

I am indebted to John Bennett for the details of today's sailing:

This morning was the last sailing session for 2025 and we had a grand total of 3 sailors turn up at the gate in foggy and rather cold conditions but there was a breath of wind so we went on down.

The ground was frosty but the lake wasn't frozen, we donned our warm clothing and sailed around for a while wondering if anyone else was turning up. A course was set for the first race and this was a single triangle from Pink-Mustard, yellow, 2, Pink, yellow-1. We found it very difficult getting to 2 because of both the wind and judgement of distance, it didn't help that the early morning fog/mist was still present and indeed got worse through the morning.

So, for subsequent races the course was shortened by replacing 2 by 1, remaining as a single lap triangle but this was giving us a beat and a goosewing run at times. The wind remained light despite us asking a family to all blow towards the yachts.

In tribute to John Arrow, I was sailing his DF65 today, which seems to perform well in light winds, although positions were won and lost in the usual manner on this lake ..... being in a puff of wind helps a lot !

I had a problem on one race where the jib sheet threw itself over the jib bowsie causing a few problems .... 1. Jib wasn't going out, 2. the whole jib was being pulled downwards enough to make the bowsie slip on the backstay 3. sheeting in/out was causing the mast to move backwards and forwards. The problem was soon fixed (hopefully) during coffee by getting the jib bowsie further out of the way.

Anyway, we did sail up to 12:00 and completed 8 races with the following result.

1st John Bennett, 2nd Ian White, 3rd Nick Tattersall.

As I write this we are nearing the new year and I'm sure we are going to have some great sailing in 2026.

Happy New Year everybody :-)

John

As it is the end of the year, I have created a series of all the 2025 series and include this in the attachment.

We had 12 sailors competing in the Nov-Dec series and 20 in the year overall. Many thanks to everyone who has attended and hopefully enjoyed both the racing and the company. As John said, we look forward to some good sailing in 2026. Happy New Year!

Best wishes,

Bruce

8 sailors enjoyed a dry sunny morning with a decent 8kn SSW breeze, which annoyingly seemed to have holes just where you had decided to sail to. Never mind, 8 heats were raced, initially over a course

The weather forecast was right - no wind, but sunny. Ian, then Julyan attempted to recover boat 28 which had sunk last week, but with no success. The rest of us watched giving helpful advice from time
