DF65 Racing Results 11-Sep'24

7 sailors arrived in beautiful sunshine to race the second round of the Sep-Oct series. The wind, whilst nominally from the NW, played games with us all morning with lulls and gusts which invariably came from the wrong direction at the most inappropriate time. Chris set a course of 8/P, 1, 8, P, 1, 8, P, B/A which was lengthened to 8/P, 1, 8, Y, 1, 8, Y, B/A after the break providing 8 heats. At the end of heat 1 142's rudder servo refused to move and the yacht entered the reeds. Bruce tried to recover with the pole, but managed to turn the yacht round so it sailed out. Chris was in the rescue dinghy and chased it, recovering it before it could escape to the other side of the lake. He then lent Bruce his spare yacht for the rest of the heats. Buoy 1 seemed to be very attractive to many yachts as it was hit a number of times with the resultant penalties being taken. Gusts near Y also resulted in some yachts missing the buoy and having to go around.

Those who fared best in the conditions were:

1st - J Bennett (10)

2nd - J Richardson (11)

3rd - C Wilson (12)

Well done to them and to all for a fun morning.

Best wishes,

Bruce

I am indebted to John Bennett for the details of today's sailing: This morning was the last sailing session for 2025 and we had a grand total of 3 sailors turn up at the gate in foggy and rather cold

8 sailors viewed the resident cormorant and the mist on the lake for 90 minutes hoping that some wind would arrive. Chris had brought his scratch-built mirror, which sailed rather well in the very lig

8 sailors enjoyed a dry sunny morning with a decent 8kn SSW breeze, which annoyingly seemed to have holes just where you had decided to sail to. Never mind, 8 heats were raced, initially over a course
